For the past three months I've been experiencing mild cramping and light spotting around ovulation. I know this is not unusual but It's not happened to me before and I'm wondering why it's started now? I'm 35 and I've never had children.

The pain to which you refer is known as "Mittelschmerz" ("middle pain" in German). My sister and I both suffer from this and it started at about that age with us too. There doesn't seem to have been much research on it to date, so they don't really know why it happens. We both have children, so that is unlikely to be a factor. It's a personal mission of mine to get to the bottom of this though! It can be very painful.
Hello Llama Farmer and Elfin. It is very painful and if you ever get to the bottom (or middle even) of it Elfin, can you let me know please. I am 39 and it definately got worse in my early 30's. I had my 2 daughters when I was 34 & 37 and I still suffer from it now. It still maybe worth your while going to your doctors to get checked out though. Good luck.

Thanks for your replies - glad to know I'm not the only experiencing this, though you probably wish I was! I did find a website which said that women in their 30s may experience this due to a sudden drop in their oestrogen but it didn't say why I'm experiencing a 'sudden drop' in oestrogen!
Hi girls. Boy am I glad i'm not alone! I've been getting the same thing for about 2 years now. I'm not married, no children, i'm only 20. My sisters 30 with 4 children, and she told me last month, that she has started to get it too! Weird. I went to my GP earlier this year, he said to ignore it!! But I can't cuz I don't think it's normal even if he does. Will it mean I can't have kids? It's worrying!
