I have just recently become single and I am having a difficult time meeting people any suggestions? Other than the bar I am not trying to repeat the same looser pattern as in the past.

Or maybe through other friends...atleast this way you feel confident about the guy. Or try joining some type of organizations or extracurricular activities of your choice, and you could possibly meet someone with the same interest as you! Good Luck!
It also depends where you live. In London there's little by way of a community, so looking online and joining classes/teams is probably the best bet. In small towns it seems if you know one or two people already it doesn't take long to meet many others in the local pub or similar, and then meet a few close friends that way. But as I'm from London I may be seeing things as they were years ago, but I am told it's still better than London. Also if you have the time a few hours as a volunteer somewhere like a community centre as I used to will get a better type than in bars as well.
If you have the time then become a volunteer. You can help out a worthy (to you) cause and meet others with common interests, as well as get in on something you never would otherwise. For instance, when I volunteered at the art museum I got to attend all of the artists' receptions and meet tons of creative and intellectual people that I could never find in bars.
