What with all these stories about British Bulldog being brought back, it got me thinking about games I used to play in primary school. There was one game where lots of us had to link arms across the playground to form a barrier, then other kids would have to run at them as fast as possible to try and break through the chain (which resulted in many bruises as you can imagine) Those who broke through got to run again, but those who couldn't had to join the end of the chain. But I can't remember what it was called! Does anyone know?
Don't know the name but jeez the h&s guys would have a fit if the kids played that nowadays. In fact i wouldn't be surprised if your query was pulled out it case it gave the kids any ideas.
I don't recall ever getting seriously hurt playing those games, though one boy had to have stitches in his head. I do however, have scars from falling out of a rather large tree. And yknow, even if someone told me I was gonna fall out of it - I'd still have climbed it :D
My injuries never stopped me playing the games again,as far as I was concerned it was all part of playing.I have scars from other accidents that occurred in other games too...........I was a bit of a tomboy and could usually be found up a tree or swimming in the canal etc....i'd be horrified now if my kids did that last one though!!!
British bulldog was always banned at my school, it was deemed "too dangerous" and this was way back in 1986!
We were always allowed to play a game we knew as "commando" though. Basically they would set us up an assault course of crash mats, benches and pommel horses and we had to chase each other round the course without touching the floor. sort of like Tig but with obstacles. did anyone else play this? (we eventually had to stop when a girl broke her arm falling off a swinging rope)
Yep I remember that one, think we just called in Bulldog though. Also remember playing What's the time Mr Wolf, Stuck in the Mud, Eggs Bacon Fish & Chips, Polo, Hello Mr Crocodile etc
