Sorry i'm posting this on here but no one seems to look in beauty. At the moment I have blonde highlighted hair but I want to go brown again. If I purchased a hair dye would it be ok to dye my hair myself rather than paying through the nose at a hairdressers? Thanks!!!

I think you might be taking a risk as highlighted hair tends to be drier than the rest, so the dye may take to your hair unevenly or may dry your hair out more. I would certainly give your hair an intensive conditioning treatment a few days prior to trying to dye it yourself.
Brown hair dye over blonde highlights tends to go a strange khaki colour,if you must do it yourself try going a red shade of brown,it doesn't look quite so bad.Personally I would go to the hairdressers, disatrous dye jobs are difficult to correct and look so obvious.

Thanks guys for your answers. :-)
You have to put the red back into the blonde otherwise it will go a nice shade of green as daffy says.
definately go to the hairdressers to get it brown and then in future you can do your roots at home if you so wish
Daisy,

I am highlighted blonde and I regularly stick a brown dye through my hair if I can't afford to get it re-done at a salon. I've never had green hair and I NEVER use reddy brown colours. My hair is quite porous and colour takes to it quite well. I find a medium brown works although it usually comes out dark brown for some reason. But never a hint of green!
I was just going to post similar foodluva.

I started having caramel/blonde highlights (foils) put in my hair last year, but after spending 50+ every 6 weeks, I got fed up with paying out & the time it took in the salon!

I now put a dark blonde on it, which comes out med/light brown. I've not had any problems with it going green & my hairdresser & family say it looks very natural, 'specially after a good cut.

Thank you. Foodluva and Smudge... What make dye do you use? Is it like L'Oreal or something?
Hi again daisycup - sorry, busy day!

I've started using Clairol Nice 'n Easy Root Touch Up - Darke Blonde No. 7. It's really easy to use. I haven't as yet used an all over colour as I still have some of the highlights in, but once they're all eventually grown & cut out, I'll start using an all over one of the same make.

Hope that helps.
i think its bad that you ask that question here but you should be able to do it yourself best thing to do is cut a small strand of hair then die that wait an hour and see if it is what you what and please dont post this type of queastion on this section again
