Hi just back from the dentist whom has just informed me i need root treatment.I have never experienced this and i am quite scared. The dentist did inform me he had cleaned it all out and packed it with something to stop infections getting in and that the worst part was over. However my mind is racing. Is there anyone whom has had this and could possibly help ease my mind.As ever thanks for any replies.

astraman...yes I have had root canal treatment on 3 teeth and the term "root canal" invokes a thought of seering nerve pain whenever the dentist does anything. Quite the opposite, when the nerve has been removed, as I assume it has in your case, then you will feel no further pain. The only pain likely is when you get the dentist's bill.
Don't worry.
i had a root canal b4 it was fine .my son banged his front tooth years back and killed it he had a root canal done on that he also said it never hurt .so dont worry good luck
I had root canal treatment many moons ago, and it put me off dentists for years. It was THAT horrific. But, after plucking up the courage to find another dentist, I have had it done again, and it REALLY was not as bad as my first experience (honest). I think dentistry has come a long way, and I wouldn't fret unnecessarily. Good luck.
I have had a couple of root canals, and they didn;t hurt at all.

The worst you may experience is a bit of soreness when the freeze wears off because the disturbance may 'annoy' a nerve nearby, but a few painkillers will see to that.

As your dentist said, the worst part is over, so nothing to worry about.
Of course it will hurt you - you're a man!

Thanks to all members for there kind works,i feel a bit better after reading them.I wish all of you a very happy christmas and all the luck in the world for 2009.Thank you.
if they dont put enough freeze in it you feel it make sure u tell the dentist to put the right amout in..
The dentist will first give you a local anaesthetic so you don't feel any pain, then s/he will destroy the nerve to the tooth - which is located in the *root* of the tooth (hence root treatment). This may take a couple of attempts, it depends on how your nerves react to the treatment but is no worse than having a small filling. The worst bit is having the local anaesthetic in the first place (which feels like a little scratch or pinprick on your gum).

Following root canal treatment, I was able to have a filling drilled out and replaced with absolutely no local anaesthetic whatsoever !
