Why are their Christian missionaries?
The bible is very clear that a Christian should not associate with a non believer.
II John 1:10 "If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed." Similar in I Tim. 6:5

Matthew 28:19/20 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:
Yet another of those little biblical contradictions.
By the way, Claymore, they probably did speak like that in biblical times - only they said it in a foreign language. :o)

I don't know if you've noticed, but God always has a get out clause. One bit of the bible contradicts another - and when we question this God's obnoxious nature, and there is no suitable answer, we're told he works in mysterious ways and that it's a sin to question him, his methods, or his laws. There's no doubt that, if you believe religious literature, man can't win.
Cue the believers to tell us we can't.
Beso, even worse that it was altered by arrogant men to perpetrate lies that suited their own purposes.

Christian missions broadly means any activity in which Christians are involved.
My aunt was based in Africa for many years as a missionary. She didnt set out to preach or convert. She helped to develop a school and a health clinic by lobbying various organisations, assisted in medicine and general health, and cared for many people who suffered with terminal illnesses, including what we now know as AIDS. She continues this work now in the UK for cancer and AIDS sufferers, and helps run a youth scheme for local teenagers with leaning disabilities.
Its not all about religion.

Incidentally, the KJV bible to which I presume you refer was translated in the first decade of the 17th C, between 1600 and 1610. For a comparison of how wot they spoked like try perhaps any Shakespeare plays from that time (Twelfth Night to The Tempest).
A Nest of Ninnies indeed,
Few men were more beloved than was this fool
Whose merry prate kept with the King much rule.
When he was sad the King with him would rhyme;
Thus Will exil'd sadness many a time.
The King would ever grant what he did crave,
For well he knew Will no exacting knave,
But wish'd the King to do good deeds great store,
Which caused the Court to love him more and more.

The context shows that John was not referring to the general public,... but to 'apostates'.
Those who had accepted Christianity but did not 'remain' in it.
(2 John 9-10) 9Everyone that pushes ahead and does not remain in the teaching of the Christ does not have God. He that does remain in this teaching is the one that has both the Father and the Son. 10If anyone comes to YOU and does not bring this teaching, never receive him into YOUR homes or say a greeting to him.
Paul gives similar counsel in one of his letters to the Corinthians. But he's a little more explicit in explaining that the counsel applies to those "within" the congregation,...not those on the outside.
(1 Corinthians 5:9-13) In my letter I wrote YOU to quit mixing in company with fornicators, 10not [meaning] entirely with the fornicators of this world or the greedy persons and extortioners or idolaters. Otherwise, YOU would actually have to get out of the world. 11But now I am writing YOU to quit mixing in company with anyone called a brother that is a fornicator or a greedy person or an idolater or a reviler or a drunkard or an extortioner, not even eating with such a man. 12For what do I have to do with judging those outside? Do YOU not judge those inside, 13while God judges those outside? Remove the wicked [man] from among yourselves.
