Chronic Indigestion
4 Answers
I am prone to getting chronic indigestion, especially if I eat a lot of bread or starchy things. I was ill last week with a viral infection that has set off my indigestion. I get bloatiness and really bad pains in my stomach. I have previously had medication off the doctor, but it just doesnt work anymore, gaviscon doesnt work anymore, peppermint tea and rennie's worked last time. But I have had this bout of indigestion for a week now, and it still doesnt seem to be going. Anyone have any suggestions?
The doctor just says I have to be careful what I eat to stop it!
Thanks!

Tests showed I've got acid reflux and I take Zoton for it. I dont get stomach pain though so maybe you should see your doc again. You might need an endoscope (Camera down the throat) but,on the other hand you may need stronger medication. My OH has an ulcer and is on Nexium daily wether he like it or not.
Ask your doctor for a referral to a consultant gastroenterologist for a diagnosis of your condition.Your GP should not be dismissing you and telling you to be careful what you eat... we all have to be careful in what we eat but if certain foods cause problems then it needs to be looked into. You could have Crohns disease which is an intolerance of gluten, this substance is found in many foodstuffs but particularly in breads and pastries.
Zantac (Ranitide) is brilliant for stopping acid. But best to get checked out, you could have a bacteria -helicobacter pylori- in your stomach, which causes stomach inflamation and ulcers. I suffered duodenal ulcers, and was in agony for years until scientists discovered that this bacteria causes 90% of ulcers.
Gaviscon just puts a lining on your stomach, but zantac actually stops the production of acid, it really is brilliant.
