Tattoo's and Swimming
12 Answers
Hi all,
Ive booked to have a tattoo tomorrow (had it booked 2 week now) and unknowingly my BF has booked a spa break for valentines weekend, and now says i wont be able to go swimming for 2 weeks. I asked the tattooist and he said ill be ok, just put some vaseline over it but every other tattoo info site i have seen says wait 2 weeks. I wont be properly swimming ie doing lengths with the tattoo submerged for long periods, will just be in there for short times with my bf and im having it on my wrist so can try n keep it out the water.
Do you think it will be ok??
Thanks xx

I think it won't hurt but agree it may effect the colour. When I had mine done I had the dressing straight off and a shower when I got home but then mine is constantly covered unless I want it shown so it wouldn't have been exposed to infection or colour depreciation in the first instance.
As with anything these days there's a standard in tattoos and they're part of an association. Check and see if your tattooist is part of this association... I'm struggling to remember what it's called but I'm sure a quick google will probably reveal all.
Have fun.

I wouldn't recommend it. My partner is a tattoo artist and I work in the studio - our advice is to avoid swimming for 2 weeks, until the tattoo is completely healed - not only can it affect how the tattoo heals but you're at risk of infection, especially in the first few days after it's been done.
Vaseline is also one of the worst things you can put on a new tattoo, it can draw out the colour and leave it looking patchy.
Best thing to do would be to rearrange the appointment until after the weekend or somehow manage to keep your wrist out of the water!
Hope this helps.
