I've got the itchy throat and headachy feeling today. Booo.
Anyone have any tips how to stop it from developing? Got my first night out since having my baby in December on Friday night for my best friends birthday and I'm really looking forward to it!! Really dont want to miss it :o(

Quite honestly, you won't stop it. You can only make yourself feel better whilst you have it, i.e. paracetamol, plenty of hot lemon drinks and plenty of sleep (if that's possible with a young baby).

Let's hope it's a false alarm.
Lemsip, vaseline for the end of your nose after every wipe. Don't overheat the house, too much dry heat will bring it out more, just wrap up more! Go to bed wrapped up well. Soothing medicated sweets for your throat. Wrap up well when you go out, scarf, gloves ect... And! Southern Comfort & hot water is very very soothing to your throat! Hope you get better for your night out! xxx
First Defence has been known to work, though not for me

Drink plenty of water.
Take a zinc supplement. It is supposed to be essential for your immune system. I read once that i is the only thing scientifically proven to quicken your recovery.

Vitamin C helps build your resistence, but cannot help once you have caught the cold.

I take Vit C and Zinc tablets, which I get from Tescos
Have a Lemsip
echinacea tablets helped me over christmas, they won't stop a cold but will reduce the severity. there are also some tablets called koloba (sp?) which are becoming very popular for preventing colds. both of these are hebal remedies by the way and should be available from boots or supredrug.
i take echinacea, zinc and vitamin B.
I don't get a cold often and when i do it's not so bad.

For now I would drink lots of water and as much sleep as you can - and fresh air (but not at the same time LOL)
echinacea is the stuff, I take it two weeks on two weeks off and I have not had a cold for 5 years. Start taking them now and it might prevent the cold from getting any worse. Lots of fluids and regular paracetamol or the good old fashioned beechams powders in powder form are brilliant.
