Question about Anaemia

Is anaemia a reduction in the number of red blood cells, or a reduction in the amount of haemoglobin? I think it is the latter, just making sure though because two websites say completely different things!

Reduction in the amount of haemoglobin

Reduction in the number of red blood cells is erythropenia and although they may be less in number, they may be packed with haemoglobin making the total heamoglobin concentration normal.
