Hey, i need some advice!

I have been so ill for the past 2 days, i thought i was dying yesterday morning from my symptoms (shivering and sweating, headache, neck ache, nausea and the worst sore throat i've ever experienced). So i went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a throat and chest infection and given antibiotics. I took them all day yesterday and have taken 2 today so far and i feel soo much better! I just feel a little blocked up in the nose area and was really looking forward to going out tonight. Should i go anyway? please advise me! xxx

Personally, I would not go out.  You have been in a steady temperature at home for a couple of days and if you go out and get hot or cold you may end up feeling really unwell again.  However, only you can tell how you feel.

Don't forget you can't mix antibiotics and alcohol!!

Its gonna rain later and so you may get wet. Thats not gonna help you. If you have a car you should drive cos at least you can come home then
If you are on anti biotics, you can't drink anyway as they will stop working! Stay in and watch tv infront of the fire!
don't spread your germs around town, stay home eat ice cream and recover
The sensible answer is dont go out. But if it was me, I would. If you do go out, try drinking gatsby's (southern comfort, lime and ginger ale), they're great for colds and sore throats
Your friends will be so elated that you went out.... in a couple of days when they start experiencing your symptoms...

ahh thanks cardboard! that was the answer i was looking for! I've been gievn amoxycillin and nowhere on the packaging or on any websites can i find that you can't mix it with alcohol, so it should be ok. plus i'm getting better by every hour. so by 9 i should be pretty much back to normal health. thanks for your answers though, and i'll be sure to keep to myself rather than spread it. xxx

you can't have alcohol with amoxycillin, but i always do! Face it, you knew what you were going to do before you asked the question, so go out and enjoy getting drunk more easily than usual!
personally I would go out tonight and tomorrow night and get drunk.. I find being drunk takes your mind off being ill.. going out tonight and tomorrow will probably stop you from going to work next week, but who cares least you went out at the weekend

ahh these are all good answers! to be honest i did know what i was going to do, i just needed a second opinion. i've searched high and low on the net and read the packaging back to front and it doesnt say anywhere that alcohol can't be drunk when taking amoxycillin. it mentions a different type of antibiotics, beginning with 'm' im not sure what it is. but it says nothing about avoiding alcohol with amoxycillin. so i think im just going to go out, drink, have fun and make sure i don't give it to anyone else. although im pretty sure the amoxycillin has done its job amazingly well and got rid of it already. xxx

...just don't come crying to us next week when you're ill again!!!

LOL - sorry I came over all maternal!

amoxycillin is penicillin, you definitely are not supposed to consume alcohol whilst taking these! Apart from them stopping working they can cause bad reactions! I stupidly went out on a bender whilst taking these (for throat infection) and broke out in a rash and felt worse than ever for about 2 weeks after! If you do go out, I would advise you not to drink.

honestly shady_jady, believe me that you're not supposed to drink with these antibiotics- my mum's a GP and I've taken these countless times...but it's never actually stopped me before.

Don't stop taking them though until the date you've been advised of by your GP.

ahh a bender though? doesn't that usually consist of drinking stupidly large amounts of alcohol? i would just have a few drinks 3 or 4, im thinking. how many did you have when you suffered the wrath of amoxycillin and alcohol? xx
and getting wet has absolutely nothing to do with getting ill. old wive's tale. otherwise we'd get ill every time we went swimming! another good one is going out with wet hair...
i would most definitely go out. if you start to feel rubbish when you are out you can always come home again. And besides, you can always spend the whole weekend in bed recovering!
Get the drinks down your neck. You'll be grand. If you're a man chances are your not really as sick as you imagine anyway!

nope, i am a lady. and i was really so ill yesterday morning i could barely move. im so shocked at how much better i feel today. it feels like ive had a cold and its in it's dying stages, so ive decided im going to go out tonight for sure. xxx
beware though shady_jady- you will feel worse tomorrow than you did at your worst point during the week...just warning you!
Stay at home and keep your germs to yourself hehe. If you go out, chances are you'll be in a smokey atmosphere and it will irritate your chest. The quicker you get better, the more fun you can have next weekend instead :o)
