blue eyes

is it true that newborn babies eyes are always blue?, and if so why?

I wonder this too! My nephew had blue eyes when he was born, but now, 8 years down the line, they're dark brown!

I think it's something to do with the pigment not being formed properly at birth. Just like fingers and toe bones  are not joined up properly at birth, and the skull also has gaps in it! It takes a while for the eye "colour" to form.

Not too long ago I told my g/f this (she has brown eyes) and she informed me that she was born with brown eyes. She even got her parents to confirm this because I didn't believe her.

No, our son's eyes were so dark they almost looked black, now grown his eyes are a dark brown like mine.

Both my daughters were born with dark blue eyes, which turned dark brown within a few weeks, going through a sort of mud-coloured stage between.  I think this is usual for pale-skinned people.

 

I think very dark brown eyes (with darker skin?) may be brown from birth.

Eye colour is determined by the amount of pigment � called melanin � in the iris of the eye. The more pigment, the darker the eye color. Contrary to popular belief, not all babies are born with blue eyes. Caucasian newborns generally have slate-blue eyes, but can be born with any shade of the other eye colours.

 

As a newborn's eye develops, the pigment increases as exposure to light after birth triggers the production of melanin. In babies who are born with dark coloured eyes, permanent eye colour may develop in the first few months of life. Babies with lighter eye colour at birth may average about six months to develop their permanent eye colour.

its the same with black and white babies too, lighter black babies tend to be born lighter or white causing the father to freak and accuse his wife of having sleep overs. then as the melanin kicks in they calm down and realise it was the darker fella next door who got a go rather than the white one across the road. however, liken the eyes thing it's not alwaya apparent.

Unless the father is white of course, and then he freaks out weeks later when the baby is blatantly not his.

I'm a light-brown arab, my mom is white and my pop is brown and both me and my 2 brothers were white babies
