Mild Sprained Ankle
4 Answers
Went over on my left ankle a couple of days ago, it's swollen and a bit painful but not unbearable.
Have been wearing one of those elasticated tube support thingys.
Question is: Do I wear it all the time - except in bed
Or do I take it off when I sit down in the evening?
Also how long do I need to use it for roughly?
S0ds law, nice weather and I hurt my ankle!!!

I use a tube shape ankle support when this happens. I keep it on during the day, and off for bed at night. If you need to pop to the bathroom, you should manage that far without the support if you do it carefully. If I find time to sit down in the evening, I take it off and rest the ankle on a pouffe, as the tube thing does tend to make your ankle feel hot. If you need to go upstairs in the evening I would suggest you pop it back on again, as stepping up stairs, you are putting all your weight on that foot on each alternate step. About two weeks should see you right, but test it each day until you can walk comfortably without any pain. Perhaps the nice weather will last until you can enjoy it. Best wishes. Schutz.
