It amazes me that..........

........when a baby dies at the hands of it's parents, (to name one instance of a tragic way children can die, & therefore make it into the media) the baby is called so beautiful or gorgeous, etc.
It makes it sound like if the baby was ugly, it wouldn't make a story for the media to pick up.
ALL babies are beautiful!
What does everyone think?

On a similar note...there is a news story around at the moment about a young Hollyoaks actress who was (allegedly) murdered by her boyfriend, the presenters/newspapers always refer to her as a model.....yes she was fairly pretty, but far from my idea of a model. It seems as though her death is deemed more important than the death of someone who was plain or ugly.
The death of any child is a tragedy.

True, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder or the news editor looking for circulation.
There was a report in one of our local papers of a youth who had died recently, about how wonderful a son he was, kind, gentle etc and how everybody loved him.
The subsequent inquest revealed he and a mate had, yet again, stolen somebody's car, driven it around like madmen with no concern for anybody's safety and then c*cked up and smashed it into a lamp post at high speed. (No police chase involved.) The mate legged it from the scene and was arrested later.

daffy....LOL
MWB "ALL babies are beautiful! "
Nonsense, although "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"
I went to see the 2nd grandchild of my youngest son and she was UUGGLLYY!!!!! On top of that they had a framed photograph of her which they gave us a present........!!!!!!
The relationship between parents and siblings is totally biased and unreliable as an accurate assessment of the child.
How many times have you seen on TV the mother appearing saying that her son accused of murder or rape is "really a good boy"
Sorry I am straying off the question....NO all babies are not beautiful except to the parents.

My niece's baby was a strange looking child when she was a baby. Big ears and a alien like face. But you couldn't say to her, 'your baby is ugly' could you? The baby's father wasn't what I would call handsome, so maybe she had more of his genes.
She is now 3 years old and a lovely girl, so full of fun and laughter it's hard to not love her. She is still a bit 'weird' looking, but not all babies can win most beautiful baby contests, can they?
:-)

I think it's human nature to apply all the best adjectives in these circumstances.
They do stray over the top on occasions - every soldier killed in war is a 'hero' which is patently not true. A serving soldier doing his job and paying the ultimate price which clearly goes with the job description does not automatically qualify him or her for 'hero' status.
Likewise they are not 'our boys' - being by definition of the age of consent, and in no way 'mine' as I do not subscribe to the futlilty in which they are engaged.
Interstingly, the Daily Mail always prints large pictures of anyone involved in a tragic death if they are at all photogenic, the inference being that their physical attraction in some way enhances the tragedy of their loss.
This reached an apex of nonsense when the late Linda Lee Potter opined that 'everyone can remember where they were when they heard that Rachel Nickell had been murdered ...' which is a ludicrous assertion based entirely on the acknowledged tragedy of a young mother being murdered in front of her child, but combined with Ms. Nickell being slim and blonde.
We get the media we deserve.
