Endometriosis??

Im 35 and I have endometriosis and am currently receiving Zoladex injections every 28 days for 6 months to make me go through a 'mini menopause' to kill off endo cells.  My niece, who is 25, has just been diagnosed with the same and yet her treatment is Zoladex injections for 3 months and to take HRT tablets (Livial).

Does anyone know why treatments are different?  I thought the idea was to lower or stop oestrogen in the body so that the cells will die off, but my niece said she was told to take HRT to replace oestrogen to stop menopause symptons.  I dont understand how this treatment works! Help!!

go to the bbc site and email the doctor their as he can answer all questions like this..every one is different so you may find your treatment is right for you,,but you can ask an expert at bbc,,,just go into health...mbear zodiac

I think the best thing to do would be to speak to your doctor or specialist....  I would imagine that each has their own ideas and ways of treating the condition depending on individual circumstances. What may be suitable for you may not be right for your neice and visa versa.

I'm so sorry to hear you have endometriosis it's such a pain - litterally. I've had it for 3 years now and have luckily got it under control by taking contraceptive pills continously without breaks. My gynaecologist advised me to do this and she also recommended this book by Joan Mills: Endometriosis, a key to healing and fertility through nutrition. According to Joan Mills you can supress endometriosis by eating the right things. The book a really really good and a "bible" to any endometriosis sufferer. It explains about the whole bodys reaction to it. I'm sorry I can't actually answer your specific question but I thought I'd tell you about the book as I always worry about the way doctors are so quick to prescribe you drugs.

I am on zoladex injections and the moment and also on the livial tablets, i suffer from endometrios and have done for 10 years i have had surgery and have been on the zoladex on and off for quiet a few years.
I was always told that the injections shut your ovaries down to stop you from having periods but the injections do cause symptons of the change and that is why we are put on HRT i would speak to your GP and ask why you are not on the livial tablets (HRT) hope this is of some help to you xxxx

I am also on zoladex injections for 6mths i am 25 and they say after 3 months they will review me however could be on it for alot longer all depends if your symptoms and pain improves maybe she doesnt have it as bad? it depends one ach person normally 3 month treatment is used for uterine fibroids when you get your injection ask for the leaflet in the box it tells you all the info you need to know. I have to pick mine up so i took mine out before my nurse injected it.
I hope you are feeling the benefits. I am not on HRT but on dixirit for my menopause symptoms however i have arthritis which means i have lack of calcium and also heading for bone thinning. My doctors are useless so ask to see your specialist for any questions and GPs dont know that muchh about it x
