Elspeth, really depends how big prolapse is. Ask your G.P. to refer you onto to a gynae physiotherapist, who can assess you ,and teach appropriate pelvic floor exercises (you really need to do a mixture of short squeezes and longer holds to train both slow twitch and fast twitch muscle fibres). If necessary, physio can also use electrotherapy treatment (not as bad as it sounds). If problem is beyond this, physio will refer you onto gynae consultant for review for possible surgical procedure.
