I don't mind a guy with a messenger bag or something that looks like it would hold a laptop or other business-sorts of stuff.

If he was carrying a dainty murse, I might wonder about him...

I use a bag ( courier type) if I'm going to work, it has work stuff in it and my lunch. I work in an office where the dress code isn't suit & tie but is smart. I'd look pretty shabby turning up with a old carrier bag with my stuff chucked in but likewise would look as much a tool turning up with a briefcase.
