Heart rate monitor

I want to buy my boyfriend a heart rate monitor for Xmas - the type with a chest strap and a watch. But there are so many of them that I'm confused what to get. Can anyone recommend a basic one that's fairly simple to use, pref. for under �50?

I'd go for a "Polar" if I were you. For �50 you'll get one that is easy enough to use, but still has all the functions the average person (ie non athlete) would need.

I was looking for one a while back and asked the trainers at the gym, who told me that Polar are the best and they are available in a variety of price ranges - google it and you should be fine.

Also, ask the trainers if they can get one for you (they may get them at a special rate).

Thanks for all your replies. This is something he's mentioned in the past, as he had recently got into running, so I know he's interested in one.  Will look for a Polar as suggested.
