Inquest Report

My daughter and her partner have recently moved into an old farmhouse. It seems the previous owner of the farmhouse committed suicide in a nearby barn in May 2008. There are a number of coincidences about the date of death and they would like to know a bit more about the circumstances of the death. The farm is very isolated on an a hillside and there are no neighbouring farms or houses nearby.

We've assumed that as the cause of death was suicide, a coroner would have been alerted an an inquest held. How would we go about viewing the coroner's report of the inquest? The funeral cremation was held exactly seven days after the death. Is this normal as I thought that an inquest would have to have been held before the cremation? The death was in South Wales, if it's of any relevance.

You could try looking at the local paper, they sometimes report inquests.

jadyn. Phone the area police force, ask to speak to the 'Coroners Officer' and raise you query with him / her etc.

the law / regulations in south wales is the same as in england and so the attached document may be of some use.

The coroner only needs to be notified of deaths in certain circumstances. One of these is if the death was violent or unnatural" (including suicide).

However, this does not necessarily mean that an inquest will be held. An inquest will only be held if the coroner believes that coroner there should be further investigation into the death.

If an inquest has occured, the record ("Notes of Evidence") copies may be obtained on payment of a fee. Just contact the local 'Coroners Officer' - ask the council / police on info how to do this.

The death certificate may also be of some use.
