Our 2yr old son has lots of thick hair. Its his trademark and everyone comments on it.
However, we do need to have it cut from time to time but its such an ordeal. He used to be fine, we take him to a kids hairdresser with chairs that are cars/planes etc and TVs showing kids programmes next to each seat.
I take him 10 mins before so he can get used to the place and do some colouring in.
But now he just starts crying and trying to stop the girl from cutting it. I now have to sit and hold him whilst one girl holds his head for safety and the other one cuts it in 30 second bursts whilst he cries & cries.
I can see that this is a downward spiral for us as he will now associate the hairdressers with having his head held and his arms held by me but its the only way we can get his hair cut.
We've left it 6 months now but it really needs doing, question is, hows best to make it better for everyone all round?
Just persevere or you could try getting a hairdresser to come to your house.
My kids were the same at that age.
Just wish my 11 year old would go to the hairdressers now. He has thick shoulder length hair and refuses to get it cut. His friends call him a grebo chav....lol
I used to cut my son's hair myself when he was two. He also had thick hair. Good hairdressing scissors required and I must admit I am quite good at cutting hair. However, made me think that perhaps he might be better with a visiting hairdresser in your own home.
I was going to suggest the same, do it yourself at home - I never risked the scissors, I went for the clippers all over. My two weren't scared, it was just for convenience. After a while I started taking them back to the barbers as they liked fancy spiky styles, now they just want it long.
My son was the same. He grew out of it. My nephew was just as bad,. His Mum had to hold his head still whilst I held his arms down, then we would try and feed him choc buttons!! But my son is fine now. We always had to use the same barber - he would never go to one of the other chairs - but now he doesn't mind which onw cuts it. He is 6 now, he probably got over htis fear when he was 4. Persevere!
