anti social behaviour....
Is it much worse now or is it just reported more? It does seem like the former, not a day goes by that we don't hear of lowlives making someones life a misery. Why are we so bad at dealing with it? What has changed in young people that makes them repellant? To normal people they are almost like another species of animal to avoid or fear, what has gone wrong?

Unfortunately we only hear about the bad and not the good. Personally I think it has got worse but that vast majority of youngsters are normal nice people and no different from any other generation of youngsters who are high spirited and enjoying themselves.
What has changed in those people that you call repellant? Well, in my opinion, selfish self obsessed parents who haven't got any ideas of what parenting is about and whose moral codes are no better than their childrens.

part of the problem is the justice system as they get lenient sentences and have a ball in prison as they are now holiday camps, when out of prison they get everything handed to them on a plate that they don't need to go out to work. I know in our town any junkie on rehab get their taxi's paid to take them for their methadone. They were also talking about funding their drug habit to help take them off. I say they should only get benefits if they have paid enough taxes and take away all the liesure items in prison and get them back to hard labour. maybe it is time to make them all do military service, I also think that they should bring back discipline in schools and parents should back the teachers with their discipline
Respect- for each other and ourselves, seems to be on the wane.
Not sure how related this is, but I know of several young girls, who have boyfriends (kids seem to come along immediately) and they are treated appallingly by their partners, sometimes to the point of getting beaten up by them on a regular occurence. I've given up trying to drum into them that their boyfriends obviously don't respect them, as it falls on deaf ears. I've since come to the conclusion that these girls don't respect themselves either- or else they wouldn't put with it.
Where am I going with this post? Well, it's back to their children....one day, these children will be the lawless little gits you read about, as they've seen and witnessed how their parents have interacted throughout their lives, and will continue to have a chilling lack of respect for anyone else.

This discussion took place today on an early morning radio phone-in.
One caller said it was all down to Esther Rantzen's Child Line.
Now before you dismiss this as rubbish, just stop and think about it one moment.
Although Child Line has done some marvellous work, it is like all these type of things, the pendulum has now swung too far the other way.
It has now become like 1930s Germany, kids have been known to report good parents when they have had a difference of opinion.
No kids nowadays, know no one can touch them, and some will take full advantage of this fact.

I believe the answer lies in the police force doing the job that the public wants it to do. IE An officer attending when a member of the public reports an incident. Bobbies being able to stop and talk to kids in their locality and KNOW who they are! Zero tolerance on graffiti, vandalisation of property and bad language in public. If kids get away with the small stuff they are more likely to progress to worse whereas if they are pulled up at say, aged 10 for something and the parents told about it; knowing that next time they do something the same copper will catch them and know it is not the 1st time they've been told, might stop them getting worse. Parents should support the police and schools and teach manners and respect for others!
EDDIE51 I do not want to be rude Eddie, but how old are you?
Some kids these days are much worse than they were years ago.
When I was young, we were frightened of Policemen, the Park Keeper, our teachers, even the cemetery keeper, in fact everyone of authority and especially our parents.
I know one often hears this but if someone reported you to your parents then one got a telling off from them also. This no longer happens, if one accuses a child in front of it's parents, then the parent will take their child's side without question.
There seems nowadays a total loss of respect, one doesn't have to go back too many years when a child would never dare to call an adult by their first name, it was always Mr, Mrs, Sir or Miss.

What good will bringing back National Service do. The vast majority of youngsters are decent citizens - why should they be forced into National Service. And why should those who want to become a member of the forces have to work alongside wayward young people who have been forced into National Service.
BOO and I obviously agree on this. The bad behaviour is more often or not learned behaviour from parents.
I personally don't think it's up to schools to teach manners and respect. It has to be learned from the family.
But please, please don't label a whole generation of young people as being worse than generations before. They are certainly not.

where I live the only thing the yobs have in common with each other is that the parents dont seem give a monkeys about them, they are too busy with their own social life or suffering with drug or alcohol addictions to be bothered about being a parent. They dont learn respect because they have had no role models to teach them when they were very young.
my friends ex wife got her daughter hooked on drugs when she was 14....what kind of parent is that, what kind of future has the daughter got?

I think some children and teenagers nowadays have never been told off. When they ARE told off they react terribly and have to take violent revenge.
There was the case a couple of weeks ago where a woman in a cinema told some kids to be quiet during a film.
One kid got so annoyed he went and bought some bleach (I think it was) and found the family in a pizza hut and went in a poured it over the womans head.
They have been allowed to do what they want all their life, so cannot cope with some one telling them off.
