whats are the posibilities of getting testicular cancer at the age of 16? and also what exactly are you looking for when you check for lumps? is the lump supposed to be apart of the testicle or not?! any help/info would be much appreciated.

Being female I couldn't tell you, but I have 2 sons similar in age to you. I've done a bit of Googling and found these web sited that you might find useful.

Hi there. I'm a 38 year old male. Earlier in the year I found a lump in my left testicle. I was in the bath and felt it - an ignored it. Kept feeling it, kept ignoring it. I was scared - scared still. I eventually went to the doctors. It was a harmless cyst. My lump is the size of a pea and attached to the tube that leads out of the top of the left testicle. It's totally harmless, but if you've found anything just see your doctor. He or she won't mind - honestly.

yeh, cheers i know they won't mind. to be honest i'm more worried about telling my parents and i'm not quite sure why. what did you have done with this cyst thing? operation, drugs or just left it!?

Hi astro... reading the answer spainlads gave reminded me that my younger son found a lump a couple of years ago (he was 15).

He was really scared but did come and speak to me after worrying himself half to death. All he said was 'Mum...I've found a lump'. I was more concerned that he hadn't told me, than what it could have been. We chatted for a while and he admitted he was terrified, but the next morning we went to the doctor who confirmed it was a cyst and perfectly ok.  He didn't have any treatment.

 

The doctor explained that many teenagers boys and men have them, but often can't even feel them.  Usually they subside on their own, but occasionally the cyst needs treatment, which could possibly mean a small operation.

 

Rather than worrying on your own, have a chat with your dad if you'd feel uncomfortable talking to your mum. I am sure that they would rather know, so they can support you. After all Mum's and Dad's were teenagers themselves once!!

It's not causing any discomfort or pain so it's just left as it is. I went to the hospital at the end of November, after being referred by my GP to put my mind at rest. I can have it removed now or at a later dat if I want. You don't have to tell anyone. Honestly, it's better to know. It will put your mind at rest, and you won't be thinking about it all the time.

Please asto, do try to talk to your parents because I'm sure they'll be very upset to find out that you've been worrying alone.  As the mother of 2 grown up sons I always said to them that if they ever found a lump anywhere that they were to say something. No one except your GP is going to need to see it so please don't be embarrased.  Get it sorted quickly.

I lost my leftie about 2.5 years ago ... any lump you find on a testicle get straight to your doctor ... it's an embarrasment that you'll regret ignoring ... but after a week or so, you'll be showing it to people in the bus queue.

Within a week of finding my lump it was gone ... they don'y drag these treatments out.
Had 2 weeks radiotherapy, which is, on the big scale of things, not pleasant, but better than cancer eh?

If you're gonna get cancer, it's one of the best places (curability wise) to get it.

I was on the upper age limit (40) but its equally possible at 16.

Never bothered with a prosthesis you any tell muck just by looking, and I know someone that had more probs with a prosthesis.

Talk to your parents ... don't ignore it ... if it's a nasty lump, it CAN spread and then you're in deep sh*t, they won't want to lose a son, I'm sure

i went to the doctors in the end (twice) and both times they send there wasnt a problem!! a cyst and a bumpy epididymis!!
