Does anyone know anything about swollen lymph node?  What causes it? What treatment is needed? Are there any complications?

My 7 year old daughter has it.  I was told by a locum doctor on Sunday night and had to make appt for my GP for tomorrow to be examined in case it develops into anything else.  Just wondering if anyone knows about it because I've never heard of it before.

Thanks in advance

I'm not an expert...so just stick to the Docs advice...but I do know that lymph nodes/ glands are there to get rid of toxins & stuff from your body. Lymph is the fluid that carries the toxins & dead cells from around your body. If your lymph glands or nodes are swollen, it means that your are probably fighting something off (a cold or virus)

The nodes are like a filter, and if bacteria gets trapped in them they swell up & get a bit sore. The nodes also actually produce important components to do with the immune system (they're the cells that destroy foreign organisms)

Definitely go to the Dr, but she's probably just fighting off a bug or something.

My son had severe eczema until he was 5 and his lymph nodes were constantly swollen because his skin was inflamed and sore.
I doubt it's anything to worry about but hopefully your doctor will have told you that by now anyway.

How did the appointment go?

Thanks for your answers.

Doctor sent her to hospital to have bloods taken (full blood countand glandular fever), got to wait two weeks for results and keep an eye on it in the meantime. If no better or has gone bigger then he will send her for a biopsy.
