My westy is 11 years old and lately he has developped a serious blackening on and aroung his genitals where it used to be nice pinky skin.
Now this problems has spread around his chest and back of his front legs.
The Vet has no explanation except the usual comment that all westies have skin problems.
I wonder if this blackening is commond or a rare occcurance. Has anyone else had same on their dog?
appreciative of any comments and advice>>>Leo

I know someone with 6 Westies (all males) and they all have the black skin in that area. The vet doesn't seem bothered by it.
You find pigment changes like this sometimes as the dog gets older. It's not a problem. If you want to be posh you can say that your dog has 'silver' skin. That's the word we use of poodles with black skin. In poodles, it's a virtue and we look for dogs with silver skin, ideally all over. (Your dog hasn't got any poodle in him,has he ? LOL )
