I was watching the home shopping channel and they were selling a product (electrolysis tweezers) that removed hair permanently. Does anyone have anything like this and does it really work? Can they be bought online?

As a former Beauty Therapist who specialised in electrolysis, I can tell you that this item will not work. The principle of this treatment is that whilst holding  individual hairs with tweezers that are supplied with a small electrical discharge, a current runs down the hair and into the follicle, killing off the blood supply.  The hair is consequently starved of nutrients and cannot grow.(This is a very general explanation)

Three  reasons for impending failure:-

1) Hair is an insulator of electricity.

2) If any current did travel down the hair, it would disperse at skin level.

3) The hair will then be plucked out, encouraging its growth!

I borrowed some of these from a friend to try out before I was going to buy. It takes ages as like Kerris says, you are basically just plucking the hairs out. I did a patch test on my leg and the hair grew back. I would say don't waste your money, like anything in life if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is
