As you can tell from my other thread here, I have funny bones .. possibly a sign of age. I have been told to power walk to strengthen my bones, and need to buy some good quality trainers. Can someone recommend a pair please, with some sort of support for my instep. I don't want to wear a clompy pair, I am thinking of canvas for summer and not heavy-looking. Thanks all -- female middle aged smurf here by the way.

Your best bet is to find a local sports shop (an independant shop is better, as the monkey's employed by places like JJB couldn't tell the difference between a running shoe and a walrus) and ask them to check your gait and walking style. If you have tendancies to pronate, etc then they will advise on the best shoes accordingly
Meant to ask bob whats your trade in the raf i reckon technical!

Thanks you two, and judge, that was very helpful.
Can't think why, smurf. They pay in bananas in JJB Sports ;-)
What about trying asics, they are running shoes but they are very lightweight?
We must all be getting on as i also have had a lot of problems with my knees clicking and grinding. Have just started on glucosamine....hope that helps, because standing all day-I am a cook-doesn't help. I too am after suitable footwear.

My knees thankfully don't grind and click, just sometimes when i start walking the kneecap feels as if it is going out of joint, just for a second, then feels as if it is clicking in again - only hurts for that second. also getting a funny ache in the back of my heel. (what next?) Apparently I need to exercise more and strengthen the bones. I just bought some Fit flops, see my later link, I wonder if they will help ?
Poodi, i'm not a technician lol.
However, i'll let you try and guess

lil can you imagine a middle aged female smurf in a pair of asics ? Just doesn't work - I need something a bit more feminine !
Did you try any sports or running shops smurf?
Question Author
I will get hubby to come with me bob, I got some Fitflops which are really comfy, but he can help me better with trainers. Ex-boxer, knows all about sport ... I won't be running though, only walking...
Do the fitflops seem to work? I bought some cheap imitations and they are not much cop!
Question Author
The fitflops are very very comfy, much better than 'flat' flip flops, but don't know if they are doing any good apart from being comfy !
NIKE! Ive been a Nike fan for many years and every once in a while get some Adidias or Reeboks but I always come back to Nike's as they're the most comfortable and best looking in my opinion. http://store.nike.com...4294967250+4294967155
