In this case, if the girl takes after her mother, she will be taller than her mother but may still be slightly shorter than average, maybe 5'3" ish, and if she takes after father, will be shorter than him but still taller than average, maybe 5' 7"ish. Not very exact, is it? Another very rough rule of thumb is that a child is approximately half his or her adult height at the age of 2.
I heard that if you have a son he will always be taller than his mother but there's no guarantee by how much. According to the theory on doubling height at about 2yrs old my brother should have been 6' but in fact he's only 5'7" which is actually an inch shorter than our Dad but our Mum is 5'2".
If you have a daughter then it's anyone's guess! I'm an inch taller than Mum but I stopped growing at age 12 so I went from the tallest in the class in the first year of secondary school to one of the shortest by the end. You just can't tell.
