Why does my ear keep going quiet?
3 Answers
I have had them syringed twice before, but have been told it's not usually a wax problem, it is a build up of pressure in the ear - that was by a locum GP. My previous GP of many years used to give me a steroid ear spray that sorted it straight out, but my new one won't give me it. Says it is pressure and to take sudafed (they don't help at all). It leaves me with a sensation that I've got my finger in my ear all the time, sound is very dull, can't hear conversations well and have to turn the TV right up (my grandma used to do this, but I'm only 40!) Also have lots of tinnitus in it.
Can anyone give any advice please? Thank you

It took me ages to get referred despite having noted hearing loss, pressure, vertigo attacks, general unsteadiness, tinnitus and other ear problems even though my mum has menieres with very similar symptoms although a lot more severe.
Took me so long to be taken seriously and it wasn't until my GP actually saw me during a bad dizzy phase he did start to take it seriously (I'd left the surgery and cried my eyes out the time I saw him before as he was actually quite nasty telling me I didn't have menieres etc...).
Still took me a long while after (years from my first appointment about it) via ENT then neurology then a specialist neirologist until I finally got some proper help....guess what...menieres!
I get fluid in my ears with the menieres and it's horrible and feel your pain.
I'm not saying it's anything that bad but ear things are so miserable you might need to push for some more help if what they are doing isn't effective.
I have to say you do kind of get more used to the pressure and tinnitus over time and find ways to drown it out but still horrible.
Try to avoid too much swallowing as I used to end up with a horribly sore throat which just adds to the misery.

Thank you jenna....it's like talkin to me! the GP says oh take sudafed, it'll be ok. But I was walkin down stairs today and felt so dizzy, I had to grab the hand rail so I didn't fall. I'm only 40, still think I'm young to be experiencing this kind of thing and to have to accept it's ok. I'm seeing the nurse tomorrow, she previously told me there was nothing wrong with my ears...?! Ok, so why can't I hear through it, and also, why does it stink when I rub it ( it's always sooooo itchy!) , but apparently I have no infection!
My old GP said I have eczema n gave me the spray which sorted it - what can I do? Sorry, I'm desperate!
