Could it be more than a cough!!
My son (2yrs old) is generally in good health but for the past 12 months he seems to suffer, for about a week, with a crupe like cough. He honestly sounds like he smokes 40 cigarettes a day. Ive always thought it just a cold as he suffers with a runny nose with this cough but Im starting to wonder if it could be anything else.
Just wondering if anyone elses child has suffered along the same lines and the outcome of any Drs opinion. I just don’t want this to turn into some form of asthma condition but my gut feeling is telling me its not just an every day cough and cold – it happens to often!

Don't want to worry you but my cousin was diagnosed with asthma at the age of 2. I think it's definitely worth a trip to the doctors, they may give you an inhaler to try.
In the meantime, have you tried cough medicine?

Hiya - yes everytime he gets it I dowse him with cough medicine and some calpol incase his throat is sore. It is something that seems too regular to be a standard cough/cold. He is completely washed out for 2 days before the cough breaks so Ive noted the date in my diary and will monitor for next time!!
I was thinking asthma myself but his breathing is fine otherwise .. no gasping outside the cough period.
Cheers guys

Hi
I would definately take him to the doctors
I have bother with a cough and went to the doctors and because i looked normal they kept sending me away but i still felt hellish
after about 6 months one doctor took me serious and done tests and went for xrays and i had shaddows in my lungs which was bronchitis. i'm now still having bother with it and have to go to hospital every 2 months. all they needed to do was a simple spit test to see what was wrong
its been 4 years since i started with the first chest infection and i think if the doctor had just done a spit test the first time i went i wouldn't still be having the bother i am now. i still have a constant cough. is his a dry or chesty cough? does he bring much up or does it make him gag?
