Ive been seeing them here in England and have one flying around the living room. Can you get any nasty diseases from the ones here or only abroad?

The two commonest diseases from mosquito bites are Malaria and Yellow fever are extremely rare and probably unknown in the UK.

Certain viruses may be transmitted, the names of which elude, me, but again extremely rare.

Bottom line is that the British Mosquito's bite is virtually harmless in transmitting diseases.
There are 20 odd species of Mosquito in the UK. Midges, Horseflies and Ticks are often confused for Mosquito also.
Any blood- sucking insect is capable of causing a mild allergic reaction. No UK mosquitos are thought to transmit diseases presently.
only if you get a mozzie bite and it goes a bit yukkie .... Apparently, Avon's bath oil is a great moz repellent.
they are known to transmit manflu. The best way for men to repel them is to stand by a hot BBQ all evening.
I'm always a target for mossies, but have only ever experienced the the usual itching & scratching from their bites.

However, I came home from Cyprus with a few mossy bites & the one on my arm became infected. A large lump appeared from it & if I brushed it on anything, even coat sleeves, it would pour with blood. I had to have it removed under a local anesthetic & ended up with three stitches!
