Frequent urinating
31 Answers
Thought i'd get the good folk of AB opinion before i head off to the quack.
For the past week or two, i've been urinating a lot more than normal....i can almost set my watch by it too.
I usually have a wee at 9.00pm then 11pm then 1.30am, then 4am then 7am.
It isn't so "reliable" during the day so haven't really kept track of times.
Few details....urine is normal colour, normal flow, no burning, no blood or cloudiness. I drink up to 2 litres of water a day but i'm a gardener so have a fairly physical job. I'm over weight so diabetes is a possiblility but i have no other symptoms. I like a beer...probably most nights if i'm truthful but not had one this week and urination pattern stays the same.
I've got no pain, no tiredness, no loss of erection...nothing and i'm male and nearly 44.
what do you think ?

I have wondered if my body had just got into a routine. I've always been up at least once in the night for a wee for the past 5 years. I usually only drink one coffee a day day and that's at 6am.
day time is a bit hit and miss because i'm at work and don't wear a watch....it certainly doesn't feel any more than "normal".
'll keep an eye on it and might go to the Docs in a week or so.
Thanks again.

Prostate has crossed my mind. I don't get this sudden, overwhelming urge to go...i can hold it if needed. As i said, flow is normal although sometimes quantity is lower than normal...but not often.
I have no abnormal urge to drink although i do drink about 1.5 - 2 litres of water a day but as mentioned, i have a fairly physical job and need to replace lost fluids.....i don't drink during the night and never appear thirsty.
Hope this helps

Hammerman,
Urology nurse here. Diabetes should be excluded.
However, prostate issues are a real possibility here:
Nocturia - pee-ing frequently at night
Occasional low urine volumes - could indicate incomplete bladder emptying possibly due to prostate enlargement
Your age: at 44 you are well within the age range for prostate issues.
Get your PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) checked. It's a simple blood test and your GP can do it. In addition to Sqad's post, yes raised PSA levels can be indicative of prostate cancer however, benign enlargement will also elevate PSA levels. Prior to the blood test, abstain from any activities that will stimulate the prostate for 72 hours prior to the test (eg ejaculation). This will give a truer result.
