Having got that out of the way, here's the relevant information from the NHS website. (Click through 'Symptoms' 'Causes', etc to view all of the information):

Chris, I would do it the other way around and get an expert diagnosis from a GP, Consultant then look up the details on the internet. There`s is nothing more worrying than self-diagnosing from the internet. I`ve done it myself when I convinced myself that a bowell polyp was malignant (it wasn`t). What do you think Sqad? (who probably isn`t reading this because he is having a nice glass of wine on the patio overlooking the Med)!
Personally, I tend to go to the GP first and then google to find out more about what I have got. Better though to look at the sites that have been suggested than ask on here. If you are diagnosed with IBS or something else, this is a good site to have chats about it and compare notes. The nagging lower back ache could indicate quite a few things and constant lower pains in the stomach could have other causes.
have you ever thought of keeping a food diary? this will enable you to keep a check on what you eat and also the effects, as some foods might disagree with you.Do
not go long periods of time without eating as this will make you feel bloated with gas.
Also see your doctor or practice nurse and they will help you with sensible diet. Wish
you well soon. Cupid.

Very sensible answer from cupid above - re. the food diary - you can then see what foods play havoc with your body and can give the dr as much info as possible.
Are you very stressed about something? Stress and IBS sometimes go hand in hand.
Maybe you could get a few sessions of reflexology - a friend of mine has found it very helpful!
good luck.
