27 hours and not one puff of a cigarette later...

and I am considering getting dressed and going up the shop to buy a pack. Ive eaten plenty, drunk loads of coffee, read and re read everything about how its making my already atrocious set of lungs worse. i can;t use non smoking aids, they are just too strong for me, despite the equivalent of at least a pack a day habit. I've given up before for 3 years twice and 8 weeks at the beginning of the year. Im not pregnant or nursing a child this time and it not a bet like earlier in the year so .......I need some good motivational tips please?

According to the health advice, your body will already be benefitting - the benefits to circulation, chest, etc., are really rapid after people stop smoking. Can you not think of that, and also the cost of the cigs, if you need an incentive? - think what else you could buy with the money!

Thanks guys. This is already a health benefit give up. I have a mystery cough from hell, had some horrendous bout of tracheitis which triggered awful asthma attacks so Im at that point already where its give up or die while Im still far too young. I've figured if I give up before I brave the chest xray it wont turn out so bad....... Leviathon i shall not smoke in case I get murdered is the best excuse so far.

Good for you, I have now gone 11 months without one, Ok I have gained a bit of weight, but my breathing has improved, I do get short of breath and that was the frightener of smoking for me. Drink water to get that awful taste out of your mouth. Keep it up it's hard to get over the feeling but it only lasts five minutes You'll smell nicer and your clothes will too, Try to eat sensibly but don't think about dieting. No more standing outside in the cold for a fag. Change the way you found you wanted a cigarette if you can and where and when you used to smoke them.
I was a very heavy smoker but went cold turkey one day and have never smoked since - 10/12 years ago now - my biggest motivation was the desire to live longer! - next time you go out you will notice when you stand near anyone who smokes because they absolutely stink - it's horrible - you are then allowed to be really smug because you don't smell like an ash tray. Realising that a little pack of weeds is controlling your life was, for me, degrading - just wish I'd realised that earlier. It got so much easier the better I felt and I can't bear the smell of ciggies now. Do not get dressed and go to the shop, do not pass go, do not collect £200 and do not waste any more money on cigarettes. Drink lots of water too. Well done and good luck.
