co codamol

hubby taken 2 x 500 mg of co codamol for his back pain and pulled calf muscle. he is feeling really weird and nauseous. is 1000mg too much to take in one go? it sounds it to me, doctor said to take this. im very worried.

i have to take this four times a day, to start it does make you feel very light headed and drowsy

I used to get a little bit icky with codeine and then it turned into full on stomach cramps after a while, switched to tramadol and had no problem with it, not even that slightly spaced feeling.

the codiene in there wont be 1000mg, that dose'll be paracetamol. Codiene will either be 60mg or less

just looked at the medication box, it says to take them four times a day, that seems so much. we were going out for a special treat aswell tonight and just had to cancel, of all the days eh.

4 times a day is the maximum dose - you can take less if the pain is not too bad.

The make-up is 500mg paracetamol + 8mg codeine phosphate.

I have the exact same reaction to co-codamol. I usually end up vomitting too. I now take Tramadol instead, as long as I take it after food i'm fine on it.

nextqueen. I can't take cocodamol, or in fact any codeine products. It might be worth him having a word with the doctor.

Codeine products also make me hallucinate badly!!

do you think he will be ok to go to work in the morning hopefully having worked its way out of his system? he took 2 about 10 this morning. he has now gone to bed.

I would think so. A good sleep and a good meal. I am down to having to rely on paracetamol for pain relief now or a few glasses of wine!

Everyone's different - I'm sensitive to aspirin, paracetamol and codeine is always my painkiller of choice.

i said about having something to eat but he said he felt sick and his tummy felt stuffed. would it be best to have something to eat do you think if he wakes up later? thanks for all your help by the way, you are a god send, always ask the experts ie life experiencers!

It would settle his stomach - or make him sick, should solve the problem either way. PS - please do say When he wakes up, not IF.... ;-)

lol, though shouldnt really. if he wakes up tonight i meant instead of when he wakes up, in the morning, poor sausage.

Anything with codeine in it makes me very sick...not immediately but after a few doses...so he may still not want anything after he wakes up.
If you want to test it out, stop the co-codamol, see if the nausea stops then re-start it and see if it returns.
As an aside I have also been prescribed tramodol for post-operative pain and I will never put that stuff inside my body ever again.....hallucinations, twitches, insomnia...dreadful stuff. I stick to ibuprofen and paracetamol now when I need pain relief. (and a hot water bottle or equivalent.)
I do hope his back and calf improve soon.

ladyalex, i feel the same as you about tramadol, really awful stuff and made post op recovery more difficult than without it. it made me depressed along with some other unpleasant side effects.
paracetamol and wine are my pain killers of choice, although i do occasionally - very occasionally - take co-codamol, don't like the bunging-up effect they have.

The trouble is I think I'm addicted as I take them even though my back pain might be OK but they make me relax.
