Contraceptive implant

HI everyone, wondering if you can help me with either your eperience or in general......

i am wanting to get the contraceptive implant as i don't think i can rely on myself to take the pill and i am always slightly anxious about condoms splitting etc and i really dont want children anytime soon. But i also dont want to put weight on as i hear some hormonal methods can cause that? And where do i go to get one? can i just go to my doctor or do i have to go elsewhere?

You can go to your GP or to a contraceptive/sexual health clinic. They will advise you about the pros and cons, all women are different - but go first to your GP or practice nurse, some surgeries can insert the implant without you having to go anywhere else for it.

I put on weight with the pill but I think as long as you are aware that this is a possibility and do something about it as soon as you notice your weight creeping up at all you should be alright, I on the other hand am finding it very difficult to lose what I've put on but I do love food!

I had one for 3 years and didn't gain weight. Well I did, but that was only in the last year and that's because I was idle :-)

I didn't have any periods for the whole time it was in, no side effects either. Best bit of kit ever.

I have the contraceptive injection every twelve weeks and it works well for me. It have to say though - and this came in no uncertain terms from my Doctor - that contraceptives will not make you put on weight at all. They might increase your appetite but it's up to you what you eat. Anyway, the injection lasts for 12 weeks and I haven't had a period since I started mine 3 years ago which is nice (that's normal). Might be an option if you don't like the thought of the implant, like I didn't.

I absolutely loved the implant but unfortunately it seemed to have a bit of an effect on my PCOS according to the doc so I had to have it removed but it still remains my favourite form of contraception that I've tried so far.

My daughter was on the Implant for about a year, she had no complaints about the job it was doing but - she had side effects, bad mood swings, feeling sad, tears for nothing in particular it was affecting her life so she abandoned the idea,
(Mainly because her hubby decided to have a vasectomy)

They cried all the time their boyfriends were just the worst people in the world and they genuinely couldnt control their emotions!

Im sure that can't be the same for everyone but be warned! it can ruin relationships!!!!!

I've had one for about 18 months now & I think it's great, no PMS, no periods, nothing. I'd definitely recommend it.

I am on my third implant, the first two I had I had no problems with. No periods etc but this last one I had fitted in October, I spot like mad on it. I've had to take microgynon for the last couple of months with it to see if that helps my body get used to it. My doc seems to think it's related to weight loss though as being a chunker before probably interfered with my periods and now Im fit (ish) its acting how it should have.

i was on the injections for 9 yrs and had no problems whatsoever with them and my periods stopped straight away it was great :0) then i came off of them about 8 mths ago and my periods are very regular :) i know women that have had problems with the implants so i dont think i would personally have them good luck with whatever you decide :0) most clinics will have a family planning bit in it mines a walk in service but others need appt
