Have you ever wanted the ground to open up and swallow you over something you said?

I remember my ex wife bumping into a lady she was in hospital with where they both had babies on the same day.
The lady was so delighted and fussed over our baby, my Ex said "how is your baby" she replied he died 1 week after he was born :-(
We both just wanted to be somewhere else immediately!! we really felt for her but didn't know what to say.
Have you ever been in a similar position?

That happened to me. I met an old school friend who was pregnant. Bumped into her months later and asked what she had. She said "I had a little boy...but sadly he was stillborn" She said it with sympathy on her face obviously knowing how awkward it is..
Another time I asked one of the Mothers at school if she was pregnant. Her reply "no, just fat"

I tried to be friendly one day to a lady on the train at Guildford who got on with a blob of foundation on her face, the second I pointed it out to her, I realised it was some sort of birth mark or scar and she did not look happy... Fast forward a few years and I start a new job in central London and am happily enjoying a ciggie break when who should come downstairs and spark up! She may not have remembered me but I remembered her and all the embarrassment and awkwardness came flooding back.
Still... Taught be not to be friendly to strangers ever again... ;0)

Hiya Society - Dad not coping that well - he has only seen Mum in 6 weeks. I went into see Mum on Monday, only to be called into the office and was told there is a problem, my Mum has taken a shine to a male resident and keeps getting in bed with him. (I did try and keep a straight face) - my poor Mum would be moritifed if she realised what she was doing.
The nurse said she thinks if my Dad comes in more, this would break the cycle, but I don't think it will - hence I wanted to ask Ratter's advice, as he works in a care home.
Apparently the elderly chap's family have made a complaint. He looked pretty happy when my Mum introduced him to me - in face he was smiling from ear to ear !!!

Sorry to hear 'bout your dad. However, hearing about your mum made me smile. Not sure if what your mum is doing is a good thing or a bad thing. She must be happy though. If they are just talking and spending time together, how bad can that be?
Leave the people alone to enjoy their last days is what I'm thinking right now. She is probably a bit confused and keeps thinking the 'guy' is your dad that's why she wants to spend time with him.
