??? Unexplained bruising ?
21 Answers
I have been suffering with itchy skin lately, on and off, worse in the evenings when Im relaxing...I start to scratch, mainly my legs though, drives me crazy as no amount of scratching satisfies the itch, now this morning I notices great huge bruises all over my legs !! They are not painful but no idea where they have come from..am also itchy on various other parts of my body, underarms etc,...but seems to be bad on my legs...what could cause this ?? I dont have any allergies...although used to suffer bad uritcaria throughout my teens but seemed to have grown out of that.

It could well be a hypersensitivity to some foods as you have a past history of Urticaria.
It may even be psychogenic (nerves or stress) in origin.
The bruising may well be a local response to your itching.
Take Piriton or any other antihistamine in tablet form and see your doctor next week.

Yes Dris I have read that alcohol can cause this, but I doubt this in my case, I hardly drink, perhaps some wine at the weekend but that is all...someone told me that over use of antihistamines can cause bruising, as I have been using Benadryl for over 2 weeks now.. on and off as that is roughly how long I have had this itching.
Im glad you didnt think I was referring to you -its often difficult to phrase a response so no-one takes offence.
The itch must be driving you mad -i'd even nip in to speak to your Pharmacist if it could be the medication -they can be very helpful and have saved me a visit to my GP on a couple of occasions.Hope youre better soon.

Thank you Dris, I understood what you meant...so please dont worry about that...some people do read things in the wrong context....I guess a trip to GP next if it doesnt ease up, the antihistamines work really fast though which is a blessing as before I took them the itching was keeping me awake most nights scratch, scratch, scratch......fidget fidget fidget...
