can you be soul mates with someone if you don't love them/ they don't love you? And would it not work if only one loved the other?

SOUL MATES not soul lovers though . . . .
Not sure...I have a mate that I have a very special connection with. We do love each other...quite a lot actually..but not in a sexual way.

I've been very lucky as all my boyfriends through life have always accepted him as my mate and nothing more. As has his wife :-)

Interesting . . . . have you guessed who it is yet?
molly....what´s all this "love them/don´t love them bit"

Is there a third option?
think its more to do with your definition of soul mate I guess.

My definition is that you and him, or her i guess, do EVERYTHING together, that ot me includes sex, so to me, my answer would be no, you can't be soul mates with someone who doesn't love you.

You might love them but they don't love you OR you might not lovve them but they love you OR you both don't love each other . . . .
It's your mate that you have everything in common with...

That doesn't make a soul mate I'm afraid..
Presumably this is the boy that you both agree on everything with?
so as i said, simple answer is no.

So stop trying to be argumentative with your endless "yeah but...." kinda replies molly.

It's more than that, he's such a gentleman and the list goes on and we probably would do more together if we didn't live so far apart .
My closest 'soulmate' besides my OH...we have known each other so long that we know what we are both thinking...we know when we're putting a front on...we know when the other is pretending to be ok...we can finish each others sentences...we can argue and never fall out...we can say things to each other that even my OH wouldn't dare to say to me...

We would make the perfect couple...except we don't fancy each other.

aawwwww . . . .
ummmm

.<<<<except we don't fancy each other.<<<<

Yeah right!
It's lovely to have Molly....except it for what it is though. Two people that get on very very well. I love him because of the amount of time we've been friends.

I'm lucky the OH likes him :-)
I think (and indeed I know) that you can have close supportive friendships with people of the opposite sex without any romantic involvement. For a long time my best friend was a bloke - and my OH and his accept that we are still extremely good friends and there for each other if we are needed. We are very lucky. Soulmates, though? - I think that has an implication of a closer relationship, IMO.

He's perfect in everyway that matters to me, except he doesn't love me (I don't think), but we get on so well it's as if I don't care and still want to be friends.
We don't...honest.

I think he had a thing about us when I was about 18...but we went past that.

Anyway...he's old, grey, fat and a bit of a swamp donkey :-)
How long have you known him Molly?
what a load of bull Molly.

You're basically saying you do fancy him, and would have a relationship if he asked you. So basically its not "soul mates", its someone you fancy and have alot in common with, but he doesn't fancy you.
