does anyone know if there's some sort of coughing virus around at the moment?
i started with this tickly cough on 27th and it's got gradually worse, to the point we're not now going to london for new year. i have no temperature, no symptoms of a cold, no wheezy chest, just this god-awful non-productive hacking cough and it's wearing me out and keeping me awake at night, and making me feel seedy.
i bought some pholcodine lynctus, i'm using an inhaler (a spare one borrowed from my husband), and have been inhaling olbas oil steam in hot water. whilst all these things are helping a little to relieve the cough for a short while, it's still very much there.
anyone in the know about current viruses or have any suggestions as to what else i can do to relieve the blooming cough? thanks :)
Yes, there's a lot of it about at the moment - we have conquered it with Beechams All in One, but if the cough takes hold you might need an antibiotic (my SIL did).
try sleeping fairly upright and you won't cough as much, also Google 'effective coughing technique' for some websites with info on how to shift any mucus from the lungs.
sorry for the delay in thanking you for your responses, went to bed very early and am feeling a bit better today, might even get to stay up long enough to see the new year in tonight. thanks again.
Hi there ethandron
I was over in England at Xmas and picked up a bug at CDG airport whilst waiting for my plane. The coughing at night was horrendous but after nearly two weeks of Meltus for chesty coughs I'm fine now. I also had Olbas Oil capsules to suck in those moments where you don't want to cough (carol service and visiting relations). The chemist told me not to sleep in a dry environment as that doesn't help.
All the best for the New year.
well hello to you too coccinelle :o)
sorry you managed to pick up a nasty virus at the airport, very unhealthy places aren't they? i'll not ask how christmas was for you, but it's over now and you survived it, and i most sincerely hope that 2011 brings you some peace and tranquility, and who knows, maybe some fun too, i think you deserve some. all the very best to you little ladybird.
