Numbness in one leg
6 Answers
For about six weeks I have noticed I cannot feel anything on the skin surface to the rear of the lower right leg and I also have either numbess or pins and needles in the big toe heel and the front lower surface of the right foot. I took it to the GP and one in whom I have no confidence was on duty. He just looked at the back of the leg when I showed him it and quickly said nothing to worry about you have not got DVT it's not serious. He just said it's caused by pressure in your back. I asked how long it would take to get better and he said it might never get better. I asked him if there was anything I could do to help it and he screwed his face up and said don't bend and don't lift weight and shrugged as though that wouldn't do much to help either. My question is should he have done more? What should I expect from a GP in that situation? I mentioned it to my cancer surgeon, specialist nurse and haematologist and they told me to see my GP.

Thank you squad and ljdksa for your helpful replies. The GP on duty was the one who told me ten years ago that my thoughts there was some condition draining my energy was out to kill me told me nothing wrong just anxiety. Another doctor did a blood test and within a few days I was booked for chemotherapy for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma Stage 4. When my late mother was dying with what turned out to be heart failure and was refusing to attend hospital for tests he would not visit her and told me to wait until she collapsed and had no choice and then call an ambulance. Another doctor made a home visit and took a blood sample away for analysis and found she was on blood pressure medication that the GP had not kept under review and reduced as she got older.
Progress report: Returned to GP and asked to see the senior partner. He said problem is in spine at L5/S1 and will request MRI scan of spine if problem still there in two months' time. He said relief of painful sensations would be by amitriptylene prescription. Also told me to report PSA 6.1 result to my testicular cancer surgeon. Anyone anything else to comment please?
