I really cannot understand why sometimes I can move around easily without any pain, then another time like tonight for instance I ache so much i can hardly get up out of the chair, its like all my joints and muscles have gone stiff, and its painful to move about, Im quite active and do cardio at the gym at least 3 days a week, walk as often as possible it seems worse if I am still for to long.

Woof I am 53 but still getting regular monthly periods, the only medication i take is for an underactive thyroid, somebody did once say they wondered if it was fibroligia (dont know the spelling)
Sounds musculo.skeketal.

Take Ibuprofen 600mgms as and when necessary and monitor the situation for 6 weeks.

If no improvement see your GP.
I take levothyroxin for an underactive thyroid and if i don't take it every day i get those symptoms, but recently the symptoms you describe just kept hanging on and wouldn't ease, so i went to my GP and he said i had a virus in the muscles, and then added 'you've heard of M.E. haven't you?' and so I'm waiting to find out more about his casual diagnosis, if that is what it was! But certainly it couls mean in your case that you may need a review of your thyroixin dose. Mine hasn't changed in 15 years but the doc hasn't mentioned that option at all.
dotty has a good point....your dose of thyroxine MAY be too low...get your thyroid hormones checked.

dotty and squad had thyroid checked recently and is A ok taking 100 m??? and I take it religiously every morning dotty, Sqad can I buy 600mgms ibroufen over the counter or do I need a prescription?
fruity....you should be able to buy it without a prescription and the 400mgms.....it may come in a trade name.
then maybe you've caught the same muscular virus i have, apparently it cam linger after swine flu, but whether that's the case I don't know.
You can buy Ibuprofen over the counter. I don't think Sqad means take 600mg in one go, but over the course of a day, i.e 3 x 200 mg. It also comes in 400 mg tablet form if that's all you need, meaning you only have to swallow one pill at a time instead of two.
mike.....yes sqad does!

No dotty its been going on for to long for that I am talking a year or more, most of the time I feel ok its just if I sit for to long or when i get up in the mornings, but as soon as I start moving it eases off a bit.
I can't remember when my aches started but certainly it's at least a year especially the pain in my back which is the two big back muscles over my shoulder blade, I wake up most mornings feeling like my back has been beaten with sticks!
Jeez, Sqad, I'm hardened to most things but 600 mg in one go would zonk me out. Cheaper than gin, though, I suppose.
I suffered similar symptoms for about four years, gradually getting worse.I got so stiff i couldnt turn over in bed so i decided to see a different doctor. As soon as i walked through his door he said you have parkinsons. To cut a long story short with the first class care and medication i live an almost normal life.

and sometimes i get a burning sensation in my elbows and knees its like the feeling you get when you put deep heat on your skin, except its in the joints.
Even if your periods are still regular, at 53 it might be worth getting your hormone levels checked.
Do your joints ever go pink or red and feel hot to the touch?
