Trying for a baby

My wife and I are starting to try for a baby, and want to conceive asap.

Without hearing the obvious, is there a quickest way to conceive?

Sorry to be graphic, but it is in the interest of nature!

Use the 'missionary position' and make sure your wife has a cushion or pillow under the tops of her legs to lift her bottom and hips up, so her uterus us sloping backwards. Put her legs either on your shoulders, or as high around your waist as she can comfortably place them. After climax, make sure your wife lies still for about five minutes, to give gravity, and nature, chance to work. Should do the trick. Good luck

Just to add to Andy's excellent answer you should also "stay in the same place" for those five minutes afterwards - good time for a nice kiss and cuddle. Also, I found that my wife had some sort of "instinct" for this. If, halfway through your favourite sporting event, she telles you the time is right then do your duty. Good luck.

Should have added that only if you are watching the sporting event on the telly. You would probably get arrested at the Cup Final or Wimbledon etc.

The best way to increase your chances of conception is to have sex every other day throughout her cycle (with the exception of her period of course). As Andy says keeping her legs up for as long as poss afterwards can help as does the missionary position. It might be an old wives tale but eating plenty of sweet potatoes is meant to increase fertility. I used all these tips and conceived in the first month of trying.

Also she should start taking folic acid straight away to prevent spina bifida. Good luck and have fun!

Also, the woman's climax has been found to cause the cervix to dip down, making it easier for sperm to reach their goal. No, this is not a ruse, it's true.

In addition to ann_h's response - when a woman has an orgasm it is a muscular contraction that is supposed to help the spem to be wafted along to the egg & "sook" (sorry!) any spem left at the neck of the cervix.

My husband & I are trying too so we are searching for advice too. There are lots of good pregnancy sites that can even help to predict your most fertile times. Have a google to see.

We found out on Friday that we are expecting our 1st baby and it took us 3 menstral cycles. As I previoulsy suggested there are some very good web sites that give you hints/clues & can help your wife predict when she is ovulating. I used the advice on http://www.ivillage.co.uk/pregnancyandbaby and it worked for us.
