Although I am quite fit I haven't been to the gym since September and have never been to an aerobics class.  I assume they must vary in difficulty but if anyone has been how 'heavy' is the Legs, Bums and Tums class?  Will I be panting and sweating at the back?

It really does vary from class to class... I've been to one where we just laid on mats the whole time doing sit ups & stuff, then another one where it was all lunges & aerobic stuff & I almost keeled over!  They were both 'Legs, Bums & Tums'.

Now I'm scared!

Usually its 20 mins of an aerobic exercise to warm up - not too hard but the rest of the 40mins is tough. Its all mat work like fairy said. You won't be out of breath as its all toning but you'll ache in the morning! It is good though, after a couple of classes it gets much easier.
