Why are some people so darn nasty?

My friend and I (both mid 60s) were on our usual morning dog walk today when a man started shouting abuse at us regarding our dogs. We've done almost the same walk, at least once a day, for 6 years. Both dogs were playing ball and not bothering anyone. He started effing and blinding at us saying the dogs were scaring his baby (baby was 6 month's ish old and being held quite happily by it's mother). My friend suggested that it was his tone and language that would lead to the child becoming upset to which he hurled even more foul mouthed abuse. As I said - why are some people so nasty???

seems to me a case of an abusive individual who saw someone he thought he could rag off at and get away with it. Had you been younger (sorry not being offensive there) and he thought for one second you might retaliate he would have probably kept his gob shut and found someone else he thought he could walk all over..... sounds like a right dick to me

maybe although the dogs were playing happily the family felt uneasy at the dogs running about?

no excuse for verbal profanities though I agree

Some people have never learned that it's possible to express yourself without being loud and foul-mouthed. Presumably they were in their twenties?
These people aren't happy people and need to take this fact out on other people around them. We don't know why this person reacted like that, he might be out of a job, jealous of seeing two people walking their dogs and enjoying the moment, lost a member of family or friend.... who knows? Best thing is just to ignore them if it's only words they're flying at you.
Ignore them masma. Not worth the effort of even talking to such people. You come across them in all age groups. Don't let it upset you. I feel sorry for the baby having a father like that.
He could even be afraid of dogs, lots of people have had nasty encounters with untrained and unloved dogs. I know I have. No excuse for the verbal abuse though
Baby will unfortunately turn out just the same!! Ignorant and foul mouthed. What a shame!!

He was mid 30s ish - we said at the time that he wouldn't have carried on like that had my 40 year old 6'2" son been with us. Neither dogs are threatening, one is an old Westie the other a Collie cross.
It's most likely to do with the constant diet of Soaps being shown on the television, hour after hour of darn-right nastyness. People are thinking this behavior is the norm.

Dave - I think you may be right, I feel sorry for his family if he thinks shouting abuse is the norm.
It does appear to be a lot more prevalent these days unfortunately. Not only the soaps though, it seems to be the norm on a lot of TV.
WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?! WHAT A LOAD OF BOIIOCKS!

No, just joking, he was seriously over the top and, I agree, there does seem to be much more of this behaviour around.
