eyesight

i have one eye that is short sighted and the other long. when i close one eye, the right one and i have my glasses on i can see perfectly through the lens. when i do it through the left lens with my right eye shut, i can see but its a bit blurred round the edges. should i be able to see perfectly through each lens when one eye is closed?ive not long had my eyes tested but from the test before the test if you know what i mean, ive never felt comfortable with the left lens or is it just me?!

It's hard to say if your eyesight through each eye should be identical. Most people will have one eye slightly better than the other, and this is sometimes more noticeble when there is different types of correction for each eye,and some people have more difference than others (such as those with lazy eyes etc).

The main questions - Has this been noticed by you in the past? Where you noticing this issue when you had your eyes tested and did you discuss this with your optometrist? If you feel your new specs aren't right why not go back and discuss this with them?

eyesight can get worse. what suited you then may not now.

My wife who works for a very well known opticians says go back to the store where you had your eyes tested and ask for a retest and explain your concerns as it may be the prescription isn't strong enough.

My lenses are completely different strengths. I have one eye that is a lot weaker than the other and if I don't wear my glasses for reading or using the pc then I get terrible headaches round my good eye as it's over compensating for the weak one. Go back to your opticians, cos it can cause you problems if you don't have the right prescription.

I think what you are saying though, is should you have perfect vision in one eye at a time? My understanding is not - my vision is fine when I have both eyes open looking through my varifocals, but one at a time is not so good - I believe it's the combination of both eyes through the specs which works.

Personally, I'd be worried if vision was "blurred round the edges" and would want it checked out.

I have exactly the same with my eyes, one is short and the other long. I can now see perfectly through each eye with my prescription but have had your problem in the past. As has already been suggested, return to your opticians and they should retest you.
