If it was the other way round and a political figure, especially a PM, had done something as outrageous as Philip Schofield yesterday, live on ITV with a huge audience, there would be a Media witch-hunt against that politician until he finally resigned. Should squeaky Pip now do the decent thing and fall on his sword? I for one would not be sad to see him leave our screens.

The way in which he behaved was totally infantile - a failed attempt at self-promotion.

What on earth did he do?
Question Author
As far as im aware all he has done is handed an MP a list of people he suspects to be paedophiles on live TV, not really the way to do it but its hardly a crime just not the way to do it. Maybe through his actions it will twist the arms of the authorities to investigate further and not cover it up. Good job Philip.
It was frankly disgraceful - any journalist should know better

Dear Mr Cameron please investigate these people I've identified by 3 minutes looking at internet gossip!

Good jop Phillip?

You wouldn't say that if your name were on that list
He turned the list to the camera. Five of the names could be seen.

Should he be sacked? No way! Fair play to him, thats what I say.
I think it was because the names could be read by people with very good eyesight or enormous Tvs.
Not a crime?, what if a name had been seen by a camera? Isn't that libel ? (ok not a prosecutable crime for the pedantic)

I suspect it was not just Schofield in on this, no doubt the producers were looking for something sensational.

They should all go, it was totally irresponsible.
JTP...LOL....I agree.

Almost as bad as when Joana Lumley ambushed a Labour Minister about the Ghukas.
Nothing like trial by media is there?
what's the fuss? It's not as if he named names out loud. He's apologised because apparently one camera angle might have revealed some of them; but he wasn't holding it up to the camera or anything.

He and Cameron are both trying to deal with Twitter and the internet and the way names of innocent and guilty alike sweep round the world unchecked. I don't have any answer to this problem.
Not sure I see the connection sqad

Was Joanna Lumley accusing someone of serious criminal offences on the basis of internet gossip?
Agree with jno - whats all the fuss about?
He's apologised. What more can he do?
Anyone of us can go on the internet and find those names. Its not a crime.
JTP.......c,mon........trial by media OR blackmail by media.

Just a light hearted comment.......no profound, deep seated significant post...........
If DC didn't read the names The Prime Minister did not look at the card on air, instead placing it on the table in front of him, then how did he know it was a list of 'gay' mp's?

Or have I missed something?
Go on Philip, gopher it.
Well - I think they're pretty different cases

But to the original question - I don't think sacking him would be appropriate, I'm not sure whether we even know if that little stunt was his idea.

An appology should be good enough
And he could take that gopher, Gordon, with him when he does go.
No.

It's being blown out of proportion.
He should be sacked, for his general uselessness and his utter priggishness, not for the silly stunt. Aren't New Zealand needing a lightweight presenter back?
