This young girl's letter to her teacher's parents, was such a contrast from the media's and some ABers rush to condemn this pupil/teacher relationship.
This well written and constructed letter was a credit to what seems a level headed young lady, not the vulnerable child that she has been portrayed as.
Also interesting to read that the senior police officer who said of the teacher after the trial ended last week,
/// ‘He was in a position of responsibility, authority and trust over his children in his care, something parents and the wider community expect to be upheld at all costs.’ ///
It would seem that he himself didn't hold his own position of responsibility too highly.
/// The detective who led the Jeremy Forrest investigation had previously been suspended from his job for sending out racist and sexually explicit text messages to his colleagues. ///
However although he was suspended at the time, still kept his job and later put in charge this investigation.

I may be entirely wrong about their relationship -- let time be the judge of that -- but I can't help but be reminded of that age-old tale of love or infatuation blinding the girl. Example: Sherlock Holmes tale, "The Adventure of the Illustrious Client". Girl falls madly "in love" with a rogue, nothing will shake that love -- short of the truth. It seems that she has fallen out with her parents, too. Such a shame.
However, let time be the judge. If they live a long and happy life together, then good for them.

It wasn't kidnap but of course it was abduction. The child was in the legal care of her parents, and once she went off with this man without their permission it was abduction. Regardless of whether she wanted to go or not -- she's not legally mature enough to make that decision. And, again, he was a teacher and shouldn't be running off with or having a relationship with one of his students.
As to paedophilia -- well, the prosecution accused him of this but from what I remember of pictures of the girl she looked more like a young woman than a little girl. I don't think that he can be called a paedophile. Not on current evidence anyway. I was surprised to hear the prosecution call him this, or imply it.

Mackfender, you're whilstling in the wind with some on here. I made the point that I started going out with my husband when I was 15 and he was 30. We married when I was 18 and were together for 30 years. Still got condemnation from some. No way was my husband a paedo, he was a loving father to our three children.
mackfender, no you are not a paedophile – and never were. As I said at the beginning of the other thread on this subject, the crux of the matter here is that he was her teacher and as such, he was in a position of trust – and he has betrayed that trust. Having read her letter she’s clearly an intelligent girl, and despite what the law says, I don’t believe ‘abducted’ her in the true sense of the word, I do believe they are in love, but I do think he’s been terribly foolish, and I find this whole sorry mess very sad indeed. I sincerely hope when he’s released from prison they find happiness together.
Ummmm, I wasn't her teacher and we went to Skegness. The detective who handled the case wasn't , in my opinion, the best choice. Personally, I think he should not now be in the force. The girl appears to be quite mature and level headed. She wasn't dragged kicking and screaming onto the plane and has offered her support. Sentence too harsh by Judge out of touch with today...
