Covid

After two jabs and six boosters and not succumbing in over 4 years, my husband currently has Covid.  He is continually coughing as he is full of phlegm/mucus and to be honest it is making me feel sick listening to him.  Sounds bad I know.  I got him a linctus to help the catarrh but is there anything else that can help him stop the coughing. Others must have been in this situation in the last four years.  Any suggestions gratefully received.  Thanks

Are you sure it's Covid?  There's somethng being called 'The hundred days cough' going round at the moment and it's nasty.  Your husband's symptoms sound like they fit the bill.  As far as I'm aware there's not a lot that can be done about it.

He's tested and it was positive.  He's had no appetite for 3 days finally feeling a bit hungry yesterday evening so I did some loose scrambled eggs.  His throat has been so bad that even having sips of water was painful.

100 day cough is whooping cough, and if that's what he's got then as Naomi says there's not a lot can be done to stop it.

Same with a Covid cough, just keep hydrated and see the doctor if he gets breathless.

Yes, that's right, Vagus.  My husband is just getting over it and I have it now although nowhere near as bad as him.  It can be very debilitating.

If it's the 100 days' cough, why would he test positive for Covid?

Covonia is very good.  You can get different types depending on whether it is a dry cough or a productive one.

When we had Covid we used Covonia, drank loads of orange juice and regularly took paracetomal.

I'm not saying it's not Covid, Foxlee  - just that it sounds like the hundred days cough.  When I had Covid it felt like a severe dose of flu - it knocked me right off my feet for days - but his cough seems to be the main issue.  Maybe he has both.

With that cough, is it a continuous thing - he's hardly stopping.  How can he do that for 3 months?

Yes, Foxlee.  It's horrible.  My husband is very fit - he's into all sorts of sports - scuba diving,  kite surfing etc - but it floored him.  He said he felt so weak he struggled to pick the kettle up to make a cup of tea.  I really wish your husband well very soon.

I remembered a piece of advice a neighbour gave me over 50 years ago when my 2 years old had a bad cough.  Give him some dry bread to eat.  I just gave hubby a slice and he ate it piece by piece slowly and maybe coughed once or twice only so that looks like his diet today!!

Poor man.  Try to get him to drink plenty - and maybe have a word with your doctor if you can.

give him a co codamol ( contains codeine) - wonderful cough suppressant - just one  (  15 mg shd be enough)

dont kill the cough completely as he has something to clear ( lung clag).

( does cause sedation and vivid dreams tho)

Perhaps I should phrase my question a little differently, then:

What was the purpose of undertaking a test for Covid? Armed with the knowledge that the affliction is Covid, what has or will be done with that knowledge that would not have been done without it?

I hear of people testing for Covid whenever they develop symptoms that might prove positive. I'm simply intrigued as to why they do it and what they do when they find out.
