Years Ago
I'd stagger back from the shops on Christmas Eve with gallons of milk, pints of fresh cream, all the fresh veg, plus other sundries to do us Christmas Day and beyond.
Yesterday we did the last click and collect which contained everything we need till probably into the new year. Ok, so there's just the two of us this year but even so, everything has a use by day way ahead.
Christmas can happen now, if we haven't got it then we can do without.

Not bothered this year as everything fits in either the tall freezer in the utility room or the small one under the fridge in the kitchen, and all the fridge stuff fits in the fridge in the kitchen. The rest is in a couple of baskets in the unheated utility room.
But yes, storage can present a problem at times.
I booked my online slot as soon as they came up, been editing on and off, just did a final cull of the things I fancied but don't need, added the veggies now the price has gone down. 8p a pack from Asda, sprouts, carrots, broccoli, parsnips, didn't need spuds but they were the same price. Delivery on Sunday, might still pop into M and S if I get bored but otherwise just bread to pick up Christmas eve.
Dave ( Redman)was always confused by my approach to Christmas, he used to just fill a trolley in Morrison's and hope he had got everything, being told three treat foods each and only enough for Christmas day and Boxing day. But it worked and we weren't still eating crap well into january. My treats were always fancy cheese, nuts, and a bottle of port, his were chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate. Still can't buy chocolate for myself at christmas he always attacked the cheese and port though....
Not sure if it happens in other countries, but it seems to me Xmas time sends some people off their head, and its not always the booze.
They go into panic mode when shopping thinking the shelves will end up looking like they did in covid unless they act right now, not to mention the increase in idiots on the road. I believe most shops are only closed for Xmas day. Why the panic, the veg eill still be piled high come the 2nd of january, then in the skip it goes, AGAIN.:0)
Can't resist cheese, especially blue cheese, and have probably bought far too much of the stuff. But we both enjoy it and I'm sure will polish it all off along with the couple of fancy chutneys. Ooh, and we do have some port somewhere, good call Rowan, I always forget about port.
We have frozen roasties and parsnips which have been in the freezer for weeks. Was going to leave the sprouts and carrots till Monday at the local co op but decided they keep for ages so why bother. Was also going to make red cabbage whatsit but found one in Sainsbury's ready made so that too is in the freezer, along with a small thing of potato dauphinois.
And enough chocolates to make us both ill....🤢
I've just had a delivery from Iceland. The Chicken Tikka Masala (3 tubs) was not available and a refund was made. I was annoyed because it is my current favourite obsession.
However, I spent ten minutes trying to stuff all the other frozen food into my two freezers. Both fridges are full of Pepsi Max or 7-up.
There is only me to feed!
I have about 230 bottles of Pepsi Max stashed away but only about 30 of the 7-up. I keep expecting their special offer to end. £40 for 60 bottles is a very good deal.
Have you tried the fried rice from Iceland, Rowan,?
I have a Harry Ramsden steak pie in the freezer for Christmas. I like HR battered fish fingers too.
After managing to stick to a diet for most of the year it has gone haywire. It will start again next week - I just got a HUGE bar of chocolate given as an unexpected Christmas gift. I have to eat it all before the Intermittent Fasting resumes.
Well, Rowan, thanks to you we've just had an emergency dash to the Co op for port! None in the cupboard and having mentioned it to OH, he too decided we couldn't do without it.
Back home with a Taylor's late bottled one, an ordinary Taylor's ones and a Sandemans white port. A taste test, with cheese, is on the cards for tomorrow evening 🧀🍷
