You always have an answer, when the question is aimed at Ed.
Why don't you just keep your nose out and leave it to Ed to reply?
Are you a shareholder in AB or something? Are you on the board?
Where do you fit in? No-one else on AB does this, so why do you?
Hello Dot. Hello jno. If certain users are moderators, why is this not known to other users?
What does a moderator do? Stand in for Ed? Or justify Eds' actions (or lack of)?
It must be clear to everyone, not just moderators or Ed, that people are asking about banned threads, and aren't getting a clear response. Which is ironic and self-defeating for a question and answer site, don't you think?
I suspect that some threads are banned because of emotional reasons, i.e. someone doesn't like the post because it differs greatly from their own views, not because it is offensive, abusive or anything else like that.
Site Rules are just a blind for Ed and moderators to be vindictive against certain users. I beleive that.
AB is public in that members of the public can join. But it's privately owned, by Crystal Guides. It's their house, their rules. They don't have to answer questions; if people don't like it they don't have to stay here. One of the FAQs makes clear that the editor doesn't answer questions about why posts have been pulled. I don't know why people keep storming round here waving placards and asking precisely this question, because they're not going to get an answer, and they're using up the world's precious supplies of bandwidth. I don't know this because I'm AB Ed, I know it because I've read the FAQs.
I'm not a moderator.
Because if he doesn't then it'll just turn into ( yet another) moaning chat fest.
I don't mind a certain amount of chat and actually posted in defence of it earlier this week but it is getting a bit ludicrous in body and soul, it's not just one or two threads the whole place is taken over by banal chatter. I don't know if this is accidental or if it's a conspiracy to have chatterbank brought back because it'll be too much of a nuisance if it isn't, but I really wish the chatters could confine it to one or two threads as legitimate more weighty qustions are getting pushed down and unanswered.
Yeah ,you tell 'em TCL. I often wonder why he keeps returning to AB as it's obviously not doing much for his blood pressure.
Personally, I don't care or mind whether jno is the Ed or a moderator or not she (or he?) has always been ok with me.
(PS- will someone please clear it up for me over whether jno is a he or she?)
The only moderation across the whole of AB is performed by Crystal Guides staff under the username AB Editor. No smoke, no mirrors, no grassy knolls. The idea of site users being able to moderate certain categories was considered some while ago though it wasn't pursued.
jno has a good idea of how the site works by dint of being a regular user and watching how things happen regarding how the place ticks over, so when somebody queries as to why their thread was pulled or why something happened, he/she can usually give a calm and reasoned explanation. Nothing more, nothing less. Hopefully jno might enlighten us as to the Arthur or Martha issue just to save us all putting our foot in it! ;-)
I try to, apart from when something's been brought up for the nth time and I lose patience. Sensible Qs get sensible As from me these days, and less sensible ones likewise.
